There are too many to count. It should be the whole team hitting this list but some were far worse than others.

Both Adrian and the much-heralded Joe Hart have largely disappointed in-goal, and have made too many costly mistakes. Cheikhou Kouyate spent much of the season running around aimlessly, and was a shadow of his imperious 2015/16 self.

Michail Antonio, Winston Reid and Andy Carroll were largely anonymous on the pitch, which was only when they weren’t injured for large parts of the season. Jordan Hugill was a perplexing January signing that played a measly 23 ineffective minutes and cut a lonely figure on the bench.

Patrice Evra arrived shortly thereafter, and the fact that all his starts were marked by 4-1 losses says it all.

Verdict

A hugely disappointing season – at best a 4 or 5 out of 10.
