Pochettino’s side began a revival in December, but still had areas of concern. A 1-1 draw was first, away at Vicarage Road. Son scored for the visitors. Two consecutive wins followed, with both being at Wembley.

The first was a route over Stoke: an own goal was followed by strikes from Eriksen, Son and another Kane double. Brighton were next, and a freak goal from Serge Aurier for his first goal for the club was doubled by a goal from Son. The Korean international netted his third goal in three league games.

The next trip was a step too far, as eventual champions Manchester City tore Spurs to shreds at the Etihad. Eriksen scored the consolation goal with City netting four.

But, Tottenham ended the year in style with Harry Kane netting consecutive hat-tricks over Burnley and Southampton. The Turf Moor trip ended in a fine 3-0 away win, whilst Southampton were exposed at Wembley with Alli and Son also scoring. However, there were defensive vulnerabilities as the Saints pulled two back.
