Transfer news: Paul Pogba to PSG possible if Neymar is sold

The purchases of Pogba and Neymar both broke the transfer world record when they each happened. In a matter of ten months, these two could be swapping shirts for next season.

Reports are surfacing about Paul Pogba’s potential exit from Manchester United. The French midfield star was bought by United for $116.4 million in 2016, a world-record transfer at the time it occurred. Now, after two mediocre seasons at Old Trafford, Pogba could pack his bags and move to PSG. This occurs if one thing happens, Neymar gets bought.

Real Madrid will be going after Neymar this summer, a move that would terrify Barcelona fans. A frontline of Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo wouldn’t just be the best in the world, it would be the best of all time. If Madrid buys Neymar, PSG would then have the funds to fully pay Kylian Mbappe and use the extra money to buy Paul Pogba.

PSG still wouldn’t be a contender

New manager Thomas Tuchel will surely have some fun with the ludicrous transfer budget of PSG. I don’t think it makes much sense to use upwards of £200m to pay just Mbappe and buy Pogba. PSG would then be left with Mbappe, 31-year old Edinson Cavani, and Angel Di Maria as. With Pogba, this still isn’t enough to bolster PSG’s hopes of winning a Champions League.

Paul Pogba isn’t one of those players that can instantly make you a Champions League contender. It takes a team – or players named Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi. If PSG did sell Neymar, they should use the money to buy a few players. They should get a new left-winger, an attacking midfielder, and a centerback. You could build a better contender by buying four players than just two.

Man United could really do something special

Pogba would probably be sold for at least £90m. This will give Mourinho even more money to play with and a chance to have another successful window. Every year, Mourinho has found improvements in key areas. Eric Bailly, Romelu Lukaku, and Alexis Sanchez all improved key areas for Manchester United.

Next up, buying some more defenders and maybe an attacking midfielder. Juan Mata is United’s best option in that CAM spot and the Red Devils could use some depth in that area. Paulo Dybala is an obvious choice in that spot, but Mourinho could go the World Cup route and buy a healthy balance of established stars and World Cup starlets.

If this transfer does happen, Real Madrid benefits the most having Neymar and Ronaldo. For PSG and Man United, it could help them bolster their rosters and make the road to a Champions League title quicker.
