English Premier League: Spurs win with ease over Watford
By Orri Benatar
Tottenham played some Monday night football against Watford at Wembley Stadium. The win helps Harry Kane’s race for the golden boot and Spurs race to the Champions League.
Tottenham got a head start at home against the Hornets. Dele Alli took advantage of Watford’s shaky defense and gave Spurs the early lead inside 16 minutes. Alli passes the double-digit goal thread as this was his tenth of the season.
Despite the lead at halftime, Spurs didn’t exactly ‘wow’ many fans. They played as if the win was secured and that Watford was just showing up to the field because they had to. The second-half was much better for Spurs as they scored just three minutes after the match resumed.
Harry Kane got the goal and inched slightly closer to Mo Salah in the race for the golden boot. Kane has 27 goals, four less than Salah. The win is Tottenham’s 21st of the season and puts them well in fourth place over Chelsea.
A trophy-less season doesn’t mean Spurs was bad this year
Tottenham has fallen flat in the performances that matter. To be fair to Spurs, they got some really difficult draws in those competitions. To lose to United in the FA Cup and then Juve in the Champions League, it’s not exactly a reason to just assume the season sucked.
Spurs performed great again with a young core. Pochettino is taking the approach of forming a young group with chemistry and turning it into a title side. They might need a player with world-class talent, but with what they have, this season has been great.
Kane has etched his name among the top strikers in the world with another fantastic season. Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, and Son have gotten better and more experienced.
Hugo Lloris is loyal and one of the most underrated goalkeepers in the world. Plus, budding young stars like Kieran Trippier have made up for previous players this team has lost.

The Hornets sting is blunt
Watford has had a dive down the table in this terrible run of form. They have lost five of their last seven in the league and are only six points above safety with two left to play. Theoretically, they could still get relegated. They might just.
The last two matches for manager Javi Garcia are hosting Newcastle and playing at Old Trafford against Man United. Both games could be losses and with some additional wins from some teams in the bottom, Watford could see themselves out.
It’s unlikely, but Watford is among a list of ten teams that could still get relegated. The relegation battle resumes next weekend for Matchday 37.
