Ensure stars sign new contracts

Aaron Ramsay and Nacho Monreal are entering the final year of their contracts. Jack Wilshere is a free-agent in the summer. Arsenal needs to ensure that they re-sign.

Arsenal has developed a bad habit of letting their players run down their contracts. Robin van Persie and Alexis Sanchez both left for cheap fees in the final year of their respective deals. There were constant rumors of Mesut Ozil leaving until he resigned in January.

With all the other signings the squad needs, Arsenal cannot afford to lose more players for small fees. Jack Wilshere has not signed a new deal with the club, and the club needs to ensure that he stays.

The Englishman brings genuine graft and fire to what can sometimes be a timid midfield. He has plenty of natural talent to back this up, and even with his injury history, he is worth keeping.

Two players that may be the target of bids from other clubs are Aaron Ramsay and Nacho Monreal, both entering the last year of their deals. Ramsay is Arsenal’s best central midfielder. With Champions League qualification uncertain, they may not be able to attract players of his quality. If they lose him this summer, it will leave a massive gap in the squad.

The same holds true for Monreal, who, alongside Sead Kolasinac, provides a good option at left-back. The new manager needs to ensure that the trend of Arsenal being a club that sells to those above them ends.

The return leg against Atletico has taken on a great deal of importance. This summer promises to be one of change at Arsenal. Only time will tell if it will be changing for the better, or for the worse.
