Win the Europa League

The Europa League is not only a chance for Arsenal to give Wenger the send-off he deserves, it could also set them up for a fruitful summer.

One of Wenger’s biggest regrets of his time in North London is that he never won a European trophy. This season, Arsenal have made it to the Europa League semi-finals. With their tie against Atletico Madrid delicately poised after a 1-1 draw at the Emirates on Thursday, this is his last chance.

Not only is the Europa League an opportunity for Wenger to sign off with some silverware, it can also guide Arsenal back into the Champions League. Once again, Manchester United provide an example, this time in a positive sense.

Last season, they finished sixth but managed to win the Europa League, ending the season on a high. This allowed them to attract the top-level talent that only Champions League teams can.

This Arsenal side pales in comparison to the great teams of the past, but they absolutely need to fight for the Europa League. Winning it will give them a shortcut back to the elite; lose, and they risk getting left behind.
