Bournemouth 0-2 Manchester United

Mourinho ended up playing much of his second team to play Bournemouth. Eric Bailly, Nemanja Matic, Alexis Sanchez, and Romelu Lukau all started from the bench. The Red Devils were able to get a goal 26 minutes into the match from Chris Smalling. It’s Smalling’s second goal in the last three matches and his fourth goal of the season. It makes him the highest scoring defender on Man United in what has been a decent season for the Englishmen.

Just to be safe, Mourinho decided to put Romelu Lukaku on for Jesse Lingard to seal the win. It worked. Lukaku scored eight minutes after coming on for his 15th goal of the campaign.

Eddie Howe and the Cherries have lost two straight, but remain in 11th place in the table. Their remaining fixtures are Southampton, Swansea City, and Burnley. In a perfect and predictable world, Eddie Howe should get his side to at least four points in these three games. Swansea City at home should be a win. The Burnley game, a likely loss at Turf Moor. Playing at Southampton poses as the biggest question mark. The Cherries will know their fate after the rest of the results this week. With a ten point gap, they should be good.
