A night anonymous to Anfield for ten years has been restored by the German powerhouse, Jurgen Klopp. Two teams going against the grain of predictions, taking part this late in a semifinal. Who will be the bigger underdog between, Liverpool and AS Roma?

If you’d told Pep Guardiola in September that he would coast to the PL title, he’d likely have believed you. If you’d also told him that City would come unstuck in the UCL quarters against a team 20 points behind them in the league, he’d likely have laughed at you.

Such is the intrigue behind Wednesday night’s fairytale clash between Liverpool and Roma. In a true clash of the underdogs, Tuesday night’s game at Anfield sees the meeting of Serie A and the Premier League’s 3rd placed teams.

The two unfancied clubs did very well to get into the knockouts, let alone the Semi-Final. It all leads to a mouth-watering, two-legged encounter that will appeal to the inner hipster, in all of us.

For Liverpool, champions in 2005 and beaten finalists just over a decade ago, it would represent a return to their prestige of old. For Roma, it would be almost uncharted territory.

Their only European Cup final appearance, interestingly was 35 years ago, against – you guessed it – Liverpool. The Italian club will be looking to avoid the same outcome as that previous encounter though, a 4-2 victory on penalties to the Reds.
