That’s right, it’s time to show some love to the defenders. This scrappy Scotsman is lethal to opposing teams on either side of the field.

Robertson is the ideal left-back and his style of play is quite similar to Barca’s, Jordi Alba.

He has helped bring 9 clean sheets to Liverpool in his 20 games. That is simply amazing since half of the teams in the league have less than that. What’s even more noteworthy is that Liverpool are about 20% more likely to win a Premier League game if he plays.

Klopp was prepared to pay the £8.10m transfer fee because of Robertson’s attacking ability. However, he knew he had to work on his defense. Because of his rapid progress, Klopp has stated that Robertson’s hard work is “fantastic.”

It is because of this dual threat that edges Robertson above other defenders that could have made this list. One such defender is van Dijk. Van Dijk is a tough, skilled Liverpool defender like Robertson. However, while van Dijk hasn’t had much to show for on offense, Robertson has contributed 4 assists via his dead-eye crosses into the box.

Before Robertson, Liverpool’s defence was the laughing-stock of the big six. Now it’s Champions League-worthy.
