The shortlist is out and the list of players names making the grade comes as no surprise. Well-deserved to the top performers this season and long may it continue – as it entertains us for 90 minutes watching the thing we love most… FOOTBALL!
The PFA awards ceremony will take place on Sunday night after all the weekend’s FA Cup action, as reported by BBC Sport.
"The winners for both awards, voted for by PFA members, will be announced at a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House on 22 April."
Last year’s winners of the two awards were spot on and were received well by the public. This year’s nominees I do see as the best of the Premier League and have been the saviours for their respective outfits when called upon.
Winners of last year’s awards
Winner of the 2017 PFA Player of the Year award was none other N’Golo Kante, who made it back-to-back Premier League titles, when he raked in his second medal with Chelsea, after a stellar season alongside Nemanja Matic. This season has seen a rather quiet Kante and hasn’t really lived up to his reputation – built prior to this campaign.
The second of the two awards went to Tottenham’s second in command to Harry Kane, midfielder Dele Alli. It was the second season running the young Englishman took the honours of PFA Young Player of the Year, and rightfully so. This campaign he was nowhere close to it, as Spurs fell out of the boat with only an FA Cup semifinal to boast.
Now there’s a new list of candidates which both players have been excluded from this season. So let us take a look at who the nominees are for the 2018 PFA Player of the Year. For the nominees for the PFA Younger Player of the Year, check out Orri Benatar’s rankings right here.
I have ranked them as who I believe the award will go to. Six being least likely to get the award and number one – the most likely to receive the award.
