Mourinho has been quite vocal about his support of VAR, and speculation indicates that Chelsea are one of the two who didn’t vote for it to be used next season.

If Conte had anything to do with it, I’d be willing to bet it’s because he’s a purist. If there’s one thing you can’t doubt about him, it’s his passion for the game.

That means that, if the rumours are to be believed, either Pochettino or Klopp voted against it. I love Klopp to bits, but I feel like his anger at so many decisions this season might be enough to push him to vote for VAR’s introduction.

Either way, it’s clear that there is still some room for football purism even in a results-driven gig as the manager of a top-six club.

Advanced testing

It’s a really positive sign to see trials of technology being used. But even the most staunch supporter of VAR can’t say it’s been without its faults.

Faults in law should be nowhere near the top-level of the game. I really worry for the World Cup this summer. And no one wants it to work more than I do, for the love of football.

But when was the last time that VAR made a decision that wasn’t heavily criticised for either its implementation or subjectivity? It belongs in its BETA testing phase, which is where, thankfully, the Premier League have voted to keep it.

Wenger can argue against it all he wants. But he might be joining VAR in not featuring in the Premier League next season, so maybe he won’t have to worry about it.

As for the rest of us…
