I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Which is why it gives me great delight to go into detail of how the Premier League clubs have rejected VAR’s introduction for next season.
Okay, let’s put things into perspective here, since the last time I talked about VAR, well… it would be fair to say I didn’t heap praise onto it. I do want technology to give referees a helping hand, as there’s nothing worse than when a game is won unfairly.

But, as the recent events in Mainz showed, VAR is still a VAR-ce.

Carnage in the Mainz v Freiburg game..

Ref blows for half-time, Freiburg players go into the dressing room, only for the ref to use VAR for a handball which wasn't appealed for by the players.
Mainz are awarded a penalty and are now waiting for Freiburg to return to the pitch😂
I will keep this one short. This is another incredulous precedent set because the laws currently don’t give proper guidance on how VAR should be used. They don’t make things clear, and as such, events like this are completely open to interpretation and subjective application.
