Chelsea’s hierarchy has done a poor job of supporting Conte’s needs. The well-publicized issues between Antonio Conte and the Chelsea board are worrying, to say the least.
It’s quite clear that Conte wanted higher-class transfer targets and the board gave him very sub-par alternatives, including Ross Barkley, Davide Zappacosta, and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
None of these players have proved to be of Chelsea quality thus far, and many involved with Chelsea seem to be regretting the signings.
Much of the blame has been placed on the shoulders of Michael Emenalo, Chelsea’s former technical director who has since moved on to AS Monaco.
Chelsea’s trend of prematurely sacking managers also seems to be adding a new chapter soon, with the rumoured departure of Antonio Conte set to take centre-stage this summer. Although the 2017-18 season has been poor for Conte, this is a man who led the club to a convincing league title in his first season, and hasn’t been given full faith by the board.
Surely sacking him so soon is a gamble, as he hasn’t really been given the longevity required to stabilize the club whatsoever.
