The Ivorian centre-back has been excellent for United, but unfortunately, his season has been derailed by injuries.

The supporting cast around him has been less than stellar. Phil Jones has been constantly ravaged by injuries while Marcos Rojo can be too hot-headed when he plays. Chris Smalling always looks to be on the verge of making a mistake. Victor Lindelof was supposed to be the solution to this, but despite a recent improvement, the Swede does not inspire confidence.

This weakness at centre-back may not be reflected in the goals against column. United have conceded 26, the second lowest in the league. The main cause of this is David de Gea between the sticks. The Spaniard has the most clean sheets in the league but has made more saves than any other keeper in the top six. Often, he has been the one keeping United in games, as their opponents are allowed to pepper the goal with attempts. A stronger centre-back partnership should reduce the chances given to opposing strikers, and allow the Red Devils to attack more recklessly.
