A Chinese investment group, led by Guochuan Lai, purchased the team in August of 2016 and John Williams became the new chairman of the club.

From the last four transfer windows, West Brom added players such as Johnny Evans, Nacer Chadli, Kieran Gibbs, Daniel Sturridge, Gregory Krychowiak, Gareth Barry, and Jay Rodriguez.

All of them are proven players in world football. They should have made the team reach mid-table, comfortably.

However, a poor run of form in the beginning of the season forced the board to sack Tony Pulis, a manager that has never been relegated. With hindsight, perhaps their firing of Tony Pulis was premature, because he is exactly the kind of manager that can drag teams in danger of being relegated, to safety.

However, with injuries and poor runs of form plaguing the attacking line, West Brom may have been doomed regardless of the manager.

Solomon Rodon, Jay Rodriguez, and Hal Robson-Kanu, have scored a collective 15 goals this entire season. Daniel Sturridge has barely played since arriving in Birmingham and hasn’t scored regardless.

Nacer Chadli has been hurt all year and no one else has been able to take the scoring load. Alan Pardew was brought in to replace Tony Pulis and resuscitate the attack, but he has been ineffective.

He has been unable to help with West Brom’s scoring woes and now has contributed to one of the worst defenses in the league, as they have now conceded 49 goals.
