Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen revealed that he sought the advice of John Terry during his dip in form over the past few months.

The Centre-back was at fault for Barcelona’s equaliser in the first leg of Chelsea’s Champions League knockout tie last month and made errors in subsequent defeats by Manchester United and Manchester City. These individual errors made to feel all the more significant given his excellent form at the start of his Chelsea career.

Christensen sought out ex-Chelsea defender John Terry after his recent errors. Terry, now at Aston Villa, has been a visitor to Chelsea’s training ground this month to boost the youngster’s confidence.

Christensen told Eurosport in Denmark

"“I try to keep things inside the club, not bringing anything home with me. “My teammates have seen all my other performances, so they know that these mistakes aren’t typical for me. “I have had a smaller talk with John Terry: he has also experienced setbacks and it is always nice to talk to someone watching it from the outside and to learn that they have experienced the same.“"

Christensen was instrumental in Chelsea’s 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final win at Leicester City on Sunday, shaking off the signs of his recent form.

"“I thought I might be out of the next match [after the errors] but I try to tell myself that before these matches I have played all the other ones almost with no mistakes at all,” Christensen said.“I hope that is the reason I get to start, because the coach knows he can trust me, I haven’t made any mistakes, but been very solid for a long period. “I am focusing on all the good games I have played this season.”"

During the international break, Christensen will be in Denmark’s squad to face Panama in a friendly match.

He must build on this showing when he features for his country. Perhaps the injury he sustained caused a hiccup in his form he displayed prior to being sidelined. Every game is a step towards returning to the form which saw Conte give him the nod ahead of experience.

With the pressure sadly off after being evicted from Europe’s most elite competition and failing miserably in defending their title, with obvious in-house problems – which aided to the disappointment. He now has the time to regroup and pick up the pieces.

Hats off to Antonio Conte for trusting in a youngster while playing for top honours this season. Unfortunately, the inexperience showed in defying moments costing the Blues heavily. Hopefully it will all be part of learning and not repeating.
