You cannot sugarcoat how horribly Manchester United performed on Tuesday. A 2-1 loss to Sevilla at Old Trafford knocked out the Red Devils. This is the fourth consecutive season that Mourinho’s side was knocked out before the Champions League quarterfinals.

The performances they gave against Sevilla were well deserving of being eliminated. They lacked any kind of spark offensively, defensively they were lazy, and David De Gea kept them in after 3.5 halves until Ben Yedder’s two goals late in that fourth half.

Mourinho has a constant stubbornness to park the bus and play defensive. This has cost his teams spots in Champions League finals and titles. Every team he has managed has had a point in time like this where they can’t score goals and underperform drastically.

United will now focus on winning their 13th FA Cup while maintaining second place in the Premier League table. Jose Mourinho is now officially on the hot seat with the possibility of one trophy this season. He usually lasts for three years, but he might get the boot one year ahead of time.

The fans at Old Trafford are right to feel impatient and angry at these performances. This team started off strong by scoring goals and running at defenses. A team with Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Martial, Rashford, Mata, and Lingard shouldn’t play defensive and absolutely should not be eliminated by a fifth-place La Liga team in Sevilla.
