English Premier League: Matchday 30 Saturday Roundup
By Orri Benatar
Chelsea 2-1 Crystal Palace
Chelsea was celebrating its 113th birthday at Stamford Bridge in the final game of the day. Willian kicked off the party with his 5th goal in as many games to give the Blues the lead. Chelsea quickly made it 2-0 with an attack led by Davide Zappacosta that led to a Martin Kelly own goal. Here is the first goal.
Chelsea continued to push and push for the third goal but just couldn’t get it. Wayne Hennessey made saves, Palace defenders were blocking shots, and Olivier Giroud hit the post. Giroud’s seven shots were the most for anyone on the pitch. Palace thwarted Courtois’ clean sheet as Patrick van Aanholt scored in the final minute of regulation.
This London Derby ended with a victory for Antonio Conte and Chelsea. Eden Hazard and Willian were simply too much to handle for Roy Hodgson’s defenders. Chelsea’s first win in three games gets them four points closer to Liverpool and the top four. Crystal Palace stays in the relegation zone on 27 points with their fourth consecutive loss.
