English Premier League: Matchday 30 Saturday Roundup
By Orri Benatar
Everton 2-0 Brighton
After a quiet first half, Everton took the lead midway through the second 45. Yannick Bolasie’s cross to Theo Walcott was tapped in by Brighton left-back Gaetan Bong for the own goal. Cenk Tosun got the second with a right-footed shot off the bar and into the back of the net.
The match got hectic towards the end with Anthony Knockaert receiving a straight red. Knockaert lunged into Leighton Baines after Baines launched a ball accidentally into Knockaert’s face. The Toffees got a penalty shortly afterward. Rooney’s spot-kick was saved by Matthew Ryan.
Sam Allardyce gets off the shnide with three points to go up to 37. Chris Hughton and Brighton have 34 points with the loss and are six points out of the bottom three. Everton is at Stoke next Saturday. Brighton is at Old Trafford to face Man United in the FA Cup.
