Sunday was filled with lots of action and the upset of the weekend. The upset could have been a massive turning point in the race for Champions League spots, and avoiding the drop spots.

What a Sunday of football. Huddersfield, Newcastle, and Liverpool, all picked up points after being victorious in their encounters.

Match of the Day has to go to Huddersfield and Bournemouth. They delighted Sunday lunch with a five-goal feast and some great football during the 90 minutes.

Man of the day – has to be Newcastle’s number one stopper, Martin Dubravka. United’s front men were denied several time during their meeting – with the keeper coming out on top, everytime he was called into action.

The final match of the day between the Saints and Liverpool, was probably the least entertaining of the day. But that’s due to the efficiency the Reds possessed on the day.

Huddersfield 4-1 Bournemouth

The two put on a great show from the kickoff. The first goal came as early as the seventh minute of the game.

Huddersfield turned on the heat, but Bournemouth wasn’t haven’t it – replying almost immediately in the thirteenth minute of the game through, Stanislas.

Game on! Well that’s what Howe’s men thought – but Wanger’s home side had other ideas, another three to be exact.

After having the score level at one apiece, the Terriers started the second period of the game in fine form. Three goals coming from the 66th minute – proved Huddersfield will fight for their Premier League stay.

Two penalty shouts awarded in the embers of the game, took the scoreline out of reach and the match was decided.

Huddersfield keep themselves a loft of the drop zone – whereas Bournemouth sit in an uncomfortable 10th place.

Newcastle 1-0 Man United

Rafa must be a proud manager after the great determination shown by his Toon army. From the first whistle stretching right through to the final whistle was blown – one man’s name was mentioned the entire time, Martin Dubravka.

He single-handedly stopped a sea of Man United waves with pointblank stops. The defence took a page from the keeper’s book, and helped him defend the only goal scored in the game by Matt Ritchie, in the 65th minute.

United’s 14 shots at goal displays the trouble in front of goal by the away team – but in the same breath, gives evidence to the MotM demonstration by, Martin Dubravka.

United no longer sits in a position of authority, after their loss. They now have three rivals knocking on their second place position.

Newcastle on the other hand, made great on their victory, taking them to 13th on the table, but with no breathing room.

To sum this fixture up in one line – Jose Mourinho was even impressed by Rafa’s victory over his side.

Southampton 0-2 Liverpool

Van Dijk led his new team to a big clean sheet over his old team. A tough duel before the halftime break – even though the Reds were up by two goals before then.

Salah the Egyptian king, and Firmino the devastating Brazilian, were at the peak of their powers, being involved in both Liverpool goals, with both forwards collecting a goal and assist each.

After the second goal, the Saints were not the same team who kickoffed. The wind was knocked out their sails as they strolled into the tunnel – dejected from the tie.

They had a number of chances to get back level, and should have finished it – it was clear cut opportunities. Putting either one in, could of turned the game on its head.

Liverpool close the gap on their rivals, Man United by two points, and reclaim third place. Southampton in their situation, stay down in the ditches with the rest of the poor performers.
