English Premier League: How are each of the new kids on the block performing so far?
The return of Big Sam to the Premier League was inevitable following his disastrous stint as England boss, but few would have predicted his next job to be at Everton following Ronald Koeman’s prior success.
A headline grabbing summer spending spree that failed to replace the hole left by Romelu Lukaku in attack spelled the end for Koeman, who was unable to get the best out of a slow and ponderous forward line devoid of creativity, a problem also faced by caretaker boss David Unsworth.
But under Allardyce, the relegation avoiding specialist, Everton (Sitting in 18th when he arrived) have turned their season around, with a blistering run of form immediately after his appointment including positive draws against Liverpool and Chelsea pulling them up to the heady heights of 9th.
Key to this revival has been the goals of talisman Wayne Rooney, now Everton’s top scorer for the season with 10. An inspired appointment which has surely saved their season.
