Liverpool: The Reds make the FanSided Fandom 250 list of 2017
With a history such as Liverpool who’d doubt their spot on the FanSided Fandom 250 list of 2017? The most powerful English team in Europe deserves the spot and gets in there ahead of rivals Arsenal.
Recent success or failure, hasn’t made been a Liverpool supporter all that happy, but always looking back at the history of this club – one can beam ear to ear about the success the Reds has accomplished over the many decades of ‘TopFlight‘ football.
The history of the club has a lot to do with why this top English club has made the list. Being a hardcore Reds supporter for as long as I can remember – makes me form part of this fan base and have my fair share of experiences, sunny and heartbreaking.
Liverpool’s league success has made it a bit tough to sit around the table of other clubs supporters, but knowing there’s one Red out of every three football fans I meet – makes the fight easier.
Fondest memories of my time as a Red:
As mentioned on the Fandom 250 write-up, the 2005 Champions League final, where Liverpool overcame the odds against an AC Milan three goals up before the half time break. One name, one man, Steven Gerrard, captain fantastic led the way to one of the best victories in Champions League history.
Breath taking …
Moving on further down the years, the season of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge – when they were inches away from a title far, far away from them up to today. Another duo who has to be mentioned, who suffered the same defeat but this time to an Alex Ferguson’s Man United. Is Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard.
To watch those four players take the pitch in a Reds playing sweater, was probably some of the best experiences I have as a Red. Nobody could have told you Liverpool were not entertaining at the time – football at its best.
Recent success and failure that lingers fresh in the mind:
The recent years; a day burnt in my brain till the day I die – the day Liverpool announced Jurgen Klopp as the man at the helm. The 8th of October, the most tweeted tweet around the world at the time, breaking twitter because of its ginormous fan base. A day fit for a king in my book.
Last but not least – the Europa League Quarter-final against Klopp’s old men, BVB. From Anfield to South Africa, im pretty sure no adult made it to work the next day. Celebrated as if we won the final only to be disappointed after losing the real finals.
A memory that too pains till the day I die, but a memory that makes the successful times a lot sweeter, when that day eventually comes. Hopefully it’ll be soon.
This is why Liverpool makes the Fandom 250 list, at entry #57 but in the footballing division, 4th in the world. Beating only, Arsenal (5th place) and losing to Man United (3rd place), Barcelona (2nd place), and Real Madrid (1st place).
Well done to all the Reds around the world. You never walk alone!
