The odds shared between two sides fighting it out to beat the drop in the first set of matches of Matchday 14. Brighton entertained Crystal Palace to a goalless draw over at the Falmer Stadium in their rivalry clash.

Palace did well to come back with the point, seeing Brighton has been doing so well against tougher opposition. But good on Hodgson for sending his team to their rival’s home ground and steal the point needed in their fight for Premier League survival.

In the beginning the home side was lucky a Benteke and Zaha effort went begging. A double save from Mathew Ryan, the Seagull’s first choice keeper was the best action of the game. After the near misses, there was not much to view after.

Other than those two scares – the game was pretty basic and boring. Nobody possessed the X-factor and there was little errors on the pitch by either team.

The two had equal shots on target with the possession just, just leaning in the Seagulls favour. The Eagles were extremely discipline at the back and collected no yellows or reds.

All attacks were met with equally good defending, leaving little going forward in a match where a win was only needed for the away team. Palace seem to be doing better under Roy Hodgson, accumulating a good run of games.

Something that has been missing for some time now. As you can see – the match stats are quite close showing how the two teams matches up evenly.

Some of Chris Hughton’s words after the game:

"“Palace showed what a good side they are but we put them under a fair bit of pressure.“It was probably a fair result, even though we looked like we might get something. But we weren’t at the same level we were in previous weeks.“Fortunately as a side, we have been compact and not allowed many chances.“But you do need a goalkeeper that can get you out of trouble, and he has pulled off some really good saves.”"

Some of Roy Hodgson’s words after the game:

"“This was a derby game and one we could not lose.“It keeps our momentum going.“You get pressure in a derby and you don’t throw caution to the wind as much because you don’t want to make a mistake.“I expected Brighton to be a very solid team, a team that would be very difficult to beat.“We had to make certain we didn’t go away empty handed, but I’m a little disappointed we didn’t capitalise on those moments we had.”"

Both happy managers after the result, however, they both felt things could have been far better for both sides.

Palace have more positives to take from the match of the two. With Benteke back, Sakho and Zaha playing at the peak of their powers, they should be on the rise now.

Brighton need only to continue what they’ve been doing since joining the Premier League.
