Quite a hefty penny for the Icelander at £45 million. Yet, Gylfi Sigurdsson’s signature for Everton could be the winning ingredient!

Swansea have a big void in the team now that they lost a key player in Gylfi Sigurdsson. They held out for so long unfortunately, it was only matter of time before the inevitable happen.

This couldn’t come at a better time for Everton and the manager, Koeman. The Dutch manager has been struggling with attacking midfielder, Ross Barkley and his position with the club.

Before the season got under way, it was certain Ross was on his way out, yet there were no suitors interested in his football. No bid was submitted for the player who wants out.

After the show of no interest from other clubs, Barkley looked set to stay and try to work his way back into the team. However, in the world of football things can change over night.

Barkley has since gained interest from top clubs, SpursChelsea, and Arsenal. The player has also picked up a suspected hamstring injury, claims BBC Sports and according to all reports, none of the clubs are put off by his injury.

Ronald Koeman is really shaking up things in the Everton camp. I’m curious to see where Barkley lands up before the window closes. In my opinion, his refusal of signing a new contract, indicates his done and his opting for a different challenge.

Are Everton going to miss him though? Don’t think so! Barkley’s shown many spells of inconsistency in the past, compared to Sigurdsson. He also has the ability to play Sunday League football and puts his team at risk of being a man short.

Ross Barkley’s replacement Gylfi Sigurdsson:

Who better than Sigurdsson, at almost his prime age to take over from Barkley. A player really able to carry a team if need be and get you a goal in the embers of the game.

Koeman has acquired a few players with a winning mentality. Players such as Sigurdsson and Wayne Rooney are two players always popping up with the goods. Just this weekend past, Rooney proved he still got the goods and afforded Koeman three points.

His experience in the team is second to none and he has a great eye for goal. Without a doubt Everton added a quality player in Sigurdsson.

Sigurdsson is more prolific in front of goal whereas Barkley, is a better mover of the ball. The two have different strengths and Gylfi has the most important of the two, a deadly foot!

Set pieces, shots from outside the box, inside the box and goals that really hurt the opposition. Gylfi makes the loss of Ross seem like a tearless goodbye away.

Swansea fought hard to try to keep their man. Then again, they could have just been holding out for more money. This has been one crazy transfer window with the amount of money players have been sold for and paid for.
