With the first quarter of the 2016-17 Premier League having passed, here are the five most underperforming teams in the early goings of the campaign.

The 2016-17 Premier League season has already been thrilling and exciting in the opening 11 games. The league that is well known for ups and downs has already seen a fair few in the opening stanzas of the campaign.

Teams outdoing expectations, only to fall away. Teams falling below expectations, only to find form. But some teams in particular are struggling much more than expected before the season began.

The Premier League spent more than £1 billion in the summer for the first time in history. Some of the biggest buys were Manchester United splashing £89 million on Paul Pogba and Manchester City spending £47.5 million on center-back John Stones.

However, spending a lot of money doesn’t always translate to success, as some teams are already finding out. It’s still only early in the season, but some teams are way underperforming compared to the expectations they had heading into the new season.

Things can quickly turnaround as the campaign progresses, of course, but here are the five teams who are underperforming the most in the first 11 games of the 2016-17 Premier League campaign.
