Premier League Round 23: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Ugly
The twists and turns of the Louis van Gaal saga
Oh dear.
If you have kept up with the good, the bad and the ugly this season then you have probably noticed that Manchester United make it onto the list quite often. Rightly so, in my opinion, because drama has been aplenty at Old Trafford.
And the drama keeps on coming.
Large segments of Manchester United supporters have been very vocal in their lack of faith in van Gaal’s reign as manager of the Red Devils. For good reason, too.
The results are worse than they were during David Moyes’ tumultuous, and short lived, reign as Sir Alex Ferguson’s replacement.
So, the latest developments in the LvG saga go a little bit like this.
Jose Mourinho, reportedly, penned a six-page letter to Manchester United explaining how he would change his ways to suit the ideals of the club. His agent denied this, but you can decide for yourself whether or not you think its something The Special One would do.
You may have read van Gaal’s comments where he essentially said that he “cannot fulfill the expectations of the fans.” That sounds like a defeated man to me.
Are those the words of a man the fans should have hope for? What could the board possibly see in him?
The reports shortly thereafter indicated that van Gaal was close to quitting. The next wave of reports then stated that Ed Woodward talked LvG OUT of quitting.
More reports indicated the Manchester United executives were split between keeping van Gaal, hiring Mourinho or promoting Ryan Giggs.
Other reports indicated that the club are afraid that they would lose Giggs if they don’t give him the job after letting go of van Gaal.
The last news surrounding this saga indicated that Manchester United would lose A TON of money from their multitude of sponsors if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The twists and turns of this saga are far from over. You can see it now, the next time Manchester United win a match you will see a newly invigorated van Gaal full of hope. Only for it all to crash down the next time they lose a match.
The reports will come. We know that for sure.
What we don’t know is when the van Gaal saga will come to its inevitable end.
