The Good

Five Out of Six

Manchester City’s star striker Sergio Aguero got off to a slow start this season. He scored just one goal in his first six league matches and managed just one assist.

That all changed when The Citizens took on an inept Newcastle United side at Etihad Stadium.

Despite shockingly falling behind 18 minutes into the match, Manchester City responded in swift fashion. Aguero leveled the scoring at one a piece through a goal 42 minutes into the match.

Then, after halftime, Aguero did his best Robert Lewandowski impersonation by scoring in the 49th, 50th, 60th and 62nd minutes. Kevin De Bruyne added another goal on 53 minutes.

When Aguero has games like this it makes you wonder how he could start the season so poorly. Of course, things have not all been good for the leader of The Citizens attack.

Aguero picked up an injury while on international duty with Argentina and it could keep him out for as many as seven matches.

Four from Four

Remember when Bafetimbi Gomis was the early story of the season after scoring four goals in his first four matches? Well, that fizzled out and Swansea City has since struggled.

There is a new four from four sensation and his name is Odion Ighalo.

The Nigerian striker has scored in three of Watford’s previous four fixtures for a total of four goals. His 45th minute goal leveled the match away to Bournemouth and earned Watford one point on the day.

In fact, one could argue that Ighalo has earned Watford eight out of their 10 points this season. You have to go back to the opening day of the league season to find a Watford player other than Ighalo who has managed to score a Premier League goal.

As long as the Ighalo goal machine is fully functional then Watford will be fine. If the well dries up, though, then Watford could be in serious trouble this season.

They must find someone else that can ease the goal-scoring burden on Ighalo’s shoulders. Troy Deeney is someone Watford need more from. Deeney has just 11 shots on goal through eight matches this season. Deeney has yet to score a goal, but does have three assists. The goose egg on Deeney’s Premier League goal scoring record must turn into a crooked number if Watford want to have a successful season.

For now, though, Watford should ride the Ighalo wave as long as they can. It’s worked thus far.
