Manchester City finally lost this season which sees Manchester United move just two points behind the Premier League leaders, while West Ham are now third place after defeating the Citizens. Leicester City round out the top four with 12 points. Arsenal hold fifth place after tasting defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Here’s last week’s edition of the good, the bad and the ugly in case you missed it.

I’ve included a special section titled the beautiful for round six of the good, the bad and the ugly because there was one goal so magnificent that it needed its own section.

The Beautiful

Passing the Opponent into Oblivion

Manchester United scored a phenomenal team goal during their 3-2 victory away to Southampton. This goal featured 45 passes before Juan Mata dispatched a rebound into the open net.

After a long period of possession for Manchester United the ball found Memphis Depay on the left side of the box. Memphis Depay made a great move to skip past the Southampton FC defender before unleashing a stinging shot low to the short side of Artur Boruc. The shot beat Artur Boruc but cannoned off of the post and back into play. Juan Mata was first to react to the rebound and promptly slotted it home to give Manchester United a 3-1 lead.

When Manchester United are clicking on all cylinders they can be a terror for opposing defenses. This goal is the ideal end product to the philosophy Louis van Gaal is trying to instill in the club. The last two games have been a breath of fresh air as far as the Manchester United attack goes. Early on during the season Manchester United’s passing resulted in empty possessions more often than one would like.

Lately, though, the attacking impetus has been there for Manchester United and the tepid attacking performances are showing up less often. The talent is there for Manchester United to be a great attacking threat, it’s just about putting it all together like they did in the buildup to the Mata goal.

The Premier League has been absolutely loaded with great goals lately and this will surely be one of the best come season’s end.
