Premier League Round Five: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
The Ugly
Newcastle United
This summer, Newcastle were only outspent by Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham. So far, manager Steve McLaren has not gotten the most out of his team. Newcastle sit bottom of the table as one of three sides yet to win a match this season.
I do not believe Newcastle are this bad of a side. It might be a case of needing more time to gel since there was quite a bit of shuffling throughout the squad this summer. Still, though, they are five games into the season and the performances are not improving.
Gabriel Elbow
While Arsenal held a 1-0 lead against Stoke City, Gabriel Paulista blatantly elbowed Stoke midfielder Marko Arnautovic while he was running towards the top of the box. Stoke City’s attacker looked back to where Arnautovic was standing before the elbow because he wanted to play a layback. He passed to a different teammate who then blasted a shot over the bar.
The terrible part is that Gabriel got away with it. Shame on Gabriel for doing it in the first place and shame on Jonathan Moss for not sending him off.
