Southampton FC’s Summer Transfer Targets
Alex Song — Midfielder — Barcelona
Playing last season on loan at West Ham United, Alex Song proved he still has the ability to be an efficient Premier League starter. Making 31 appearances for the West London Club, Southampton are keen to sign the Barcelona extra.
Spending seven seasons at Arsenal, Alex Song made the move to Spanish and World giants Barcelona. His first two seasons with the club saw him make 20 and 19 appearances respectively. Tired of coming off the bench, Song moved to the Hammers on a season long loan.
Returning to Barcelona, Alex Song is likely to want a departure from Camp Nou. In the prime of his career, the Cameroonian is unlikely to want to spend these years riding the bench.
While West Ham are favorites to sign the 27-year old, Southampton have slid into the picture. With an £8 million bid a must for the Saints, Song would add experience and leadership to Ronald Koeman’s side. The expected departure of Morgan Schneiderlin will leave the side with very little leadership for it’s young roster.
Adding a player like Alex Song — who has experience playing for some of the world’s biggest clubs — will not only help the younger players in their development but the sides performance on the pitch.
The relationship between Ronald Koeman and Barcelona should help proceedings should the Saints pursue Song. Depending on the players wants and needs, Southampton FC could be the perfect place for Alex Song to reestablish himself in the Premier League.
