Scoring 18 goals last season placed Charlie Austin fourth in the Premier League’s goal scoring charts. Once again, Austin placed fourth in the Premier League goal scoring charts… in his debut season! The Englishman had never played a single Premier League minute until the start of last season.
Now a member of the upcoming English European Championship Qualifying roster, Charlie Austin is a prime example of a player working his way up the system.
Spending his first four seasons playing non-league football, Austin joined League One’s Swindon Town in 2009. Two years later, Austin jumped to the English Championship and signed with Burnley. Joining QPR in 2013, Austin led the side too promotion and back to the Premier League.
His goal scoring total has made him the target of many Premier League clubs. One of those sides is Southampton FC. With a projected value of £15 million, Southampton will likely need pay more given the interest from Newcastle and Tottenham.
Needing a top forward to play with either Graziano Pelle or Jay Rodriguez, Ronald Koeman may be forced to pay an inflated price in order to sign the top class forward.
