Southampton FC’s Summer Transfer Targets
Grzegorz Krychowiak — Midfielder — Sevilla FC
One of the top players on Ronald Koeman’s wishlist is current Sevilla star Grzegorz Krychowiak. Playing in the defensive midfield, Krychowiak would be the perfect replacement for Victor Wanyama and Morgan Schneiderlin should either depart.
Starting his career in France, Grzegorz Krychowiak bounced around from club-to-club for a few seasons before signing for newly promoted Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims in 2012.
Spending two seasons with Reims, the Polish international would leave France and sign for the defending Europa League Champions Sevilla. Making 32 appearances last season, Grzegorz Krychowiak would help lead Los Rojiblancos back-to-back Europa League triumphs.
An initial bid of £9 million from Southampton FC was rejected by Sevilla. The player is also being chased by Premier League giants Arsenal. Between the two, Southampton is the only one who can promise consistent first team action.
However, with a £22 million price tag placed on the player, one has to wonder whether Ronald Koeman will pull the trigger. After all, paying a price in the ballpark of £22 million would basically be swapping Morgan Schneiderlin for Grzegorz Krychowiak.
With other options available at the midfield position, Southampton FC will likely only purchase the defensive midfielder if a bargain price can be met.
