Arsenal vs Chelsea FC: 5 talking points from the match at Emirates
3. Ozil not made for the Premier League
Mesut Ozil is one of my favorite players. After seeing him flourish in Real Madrid, I wished to see him at some point in the Premier League. But, when I saw his performance today I am not convinced whether he has been able to adjust to the physicality of the English game.
Post 2015, he is one of the main reasons why Arsenal are on this rich vein of form, but still his performances against the best teams in England cast a doubt over his credibility as a player in the English league.
Chelsea especially under Mourinho, are an extremely physical side. With players such as Ivanovic, Matic and Terry, they may not have the fluidity which Ozil possesses, but are hardy players who aren’t scared to put their bodies on the line or even make a rough tackle.
The English game is characterized by a decent amount of pace along with a heavy amount of physicality, which can make life for flair players like Ozil difficult.
The German was pushed around the park by Ivanovic and other Chelsea defenders which limited his impact on the game. Not one of his best days in a Gunners jersey.
