Five tree-top level Premier League transfers
Muhamed Besic was one of the only bright spots for Bosnia this summer. After securing a move to Goodison Park, he’s already put in an impressive first display for the Toffees during the pre-season.
Muhamed Besic (Ferencvaros to Everton; 4million pounds)
There’s no question that many were left rather disappointed at the poor showing that Bosnia-Herzegovina put on display in Brazil. Far more talented than what the end result showed, the World cup debutants crashed out in the group stage after many tipped them as a potential dark horse. One good thing did come from their brief stay in South America; Muhamed Besic.
Under any other circumstances, the odds of Besic being observed by top European clubs and leagues were slim to none; the gifted young central-midfielder plied his trade at Hungarian side Ferencvaros, who, at best, could only ever to hope to maybe have a shot at making the group stage of the Europa League. Three performances later, and Roberto Martinez’s ears stood up and took notice.
Dominant in the center of the park, tireless in his efforts, tricky on the ball and rated one of the best passers of the tournament (by percentage) during his time in Brazil, Besic is the perfect addition to an Everton side that are increasing their ambitions in the Premier League. Not only does he bring under-rated talent to the club, but he now affords Martinez options; Besic joins Gareth Barry, James McCarthy, Darron Gibson and Leon Osman as the clubs options in midfield, but such is his talent that he could well find himself in the XI at Goodison Park from the first kick of the season.
With Romelu Lukaku’s long protracted permanent transfer to Everton stealing much of the headlines, Ross Barkley signing a new 5-year contract and the hype surrounding Martinez after his hugely successful first season at the club, Besic’s transfer was always going to be a quiet one; ironically, the nature of his move is mirrored not only in his personality, but the personality of the club as well. At such a cheap price, Besic could well be one of the best signings of the entire Premier League season.
