Memphis Depay (shooting) has been the super-sub of the tournament, and one of the most dynamic wingers that has been on display.

4. Memphis Depay (LW, Netherlands)

He has yet to start a match for the Netherlands, but in the two appearances he has made off the bench for Louis van Gaal’s troops, Depay has been absolutely brilliant.  Two goals, one assist and he has only played 63 minutes of football this summer.  These numbers do not come as a shock to anyone that follows the Eredivisie – Depay is widely thought to be the best young talent in the entire country.  But will he remain in the Netherlands for much longer?

Despite his brilliance, his form thus far this summer should not warrant a change of tactical deployment.  In the 5-3-2, the Dutch have been fantastic, so much so that they have charged up the ladder in the minds of many in the discussion of who has a chance to make the final – less than two months ago that was not the case.  The marriage of Depay’s pace, ability on the ball and eye for goal make him the ideal super-sub for his country, especially in the knockout stages.  He only turned 20 in February, but like all young players, his confidence makes him just as threatening as his more illustrious teammates.
