Given that the Cameroonian is not a true central midfielder, Alex Song struggled greatly as a playmaker. Moreover, he simply looked lost when bringing the ball up the offensive third of the pitch. However, that’s not why he’s one of the worst midfielders in the World Cup. That boneheaded elbow on the back of Mario Mandzukic’s head earned Song a red card and killed Cameroon’s hopes of defeating Croatia and advancing to the top 16.
