He’s been fantastic in the Premier League, but with Louis van Gaal taking over, Robin van Persie could flourish even more.

If you have watched any of the Netherlands World Cup campaign this summer, you are currently seeing Robin van Persie at the peak of his powers.  This is the same RvP that terrorized the Premier League with Arsenal, and then scored 26 in his first season for Manchester United.  Yes he had a down year last season, but that was largely due to the injury big hitting him yet again.

His numbers at United? Stellar.  38 goals in 59 domestic appearances, and 48 goals in 78 appearances in all competitions.  But the most important aspect, is the close relationship he has forged with LvG in the national team set up for the Netherlands.  Despite his fitness concerns coming into the tournament, his play for his country has been outstanding and even more telling has been how well he has thrived in the 5-3-2.  United have yet to see what a strike partnership comprised of Rooney and himself can do over the course of a full season, but if his form under LvG is any indication, there is every possibility that United fans may well be treated to a version of Van Persie that they have yet to see.
