Premier League Matchweek 24 Predictions

Time once again for the Premier League predictions for this coming weekend’s fixtures.  The title right now is an all-Manchester affair with Arsenal, Chelsea & Spurs knocking at the gates looking to lay siege to the North’s current stranglehold on the top of the table.

To the picks!:

Saturday’s Matches
Arsenal v Wigan Athletic
Chad
Arsenal 3-Wigan 0
Three’s are wild! Arsenal looks to be back on track after defeating Leeds and West Ham in their last two matches scoring three goals in each contest. Look for the Gunners to put three goals on the scoring sheet again with Robin Van Persie putting one in the back of the net for a third straight time getting Arsenal…….Three Points!

Corey
Arsenal 2-Wigan 0
Arsenal look to be back to good form, putting in two good performances in their last couple matches.  They’re may also be a bit of revenge factor again for the Gunners who still have the late Wigan 3-2 fightback from last season hanging over them.  With Fabregas & Van Persie rounding back to form and Samir Nasri looking in the form of his life, look for Arsenal to put Wigan away at home.

Aston Villa v Manchester City
Chad
Aston Villa 1-Manchester City 2
Don’t look now but the Citizens are coming. Even with all their turmoil with reports of players being unhappy and unsettled Man City is in the thick of the title chase. If they can gel and starting working together they can over take Man U even though the Red Devils have two games in hand. Look for Tevez and Dzeko to cause terror all day for Aston and even though I see this as a 2-1 match it would not shock me to see Man City score 3 or 4 goals.

Corey
Aston Villa 1-Manchester City 3
Yes, Man City look to be in good form these days & Dezko & Tevez linked up well in their first pairing last time out in the league.  I don’t think Houllier’s recent purchase of Darren Bent will matter much because, well, frankly, he just isn’t as good or Tevez & Dzeko.  Man City has too much quality for Villa & barring a Villa masterclass, City wins this.  Look for Dzeko to bag his first goal.

Manchester United v Birmingham City
Chad
Manchester United 3-Birmingham 0
The Red Devils will remain unbeaten in EPL play as Birmingham couldn’t beat them even if they really really wanted to. Look for one of the goals at Old Trafford to be the obligatory Penalty Kick on some garbage call by a love struck match official.

Corey
Manchester United 3-Birmingham City 1
Sir Alex is pretty money when facing a team managed by one of his acolytes.  Either Feguson is that much of a genius or his numerous managing students are too struck with awe when they face their teacher.  Of course, it doesn’t hurt the Red Devils that they have too much quality for Birmingham and since Birmingham aren’t considered a big side, Berbatov should probably score a goal or two.

Newcastle United v Tottenham Hotspur
Chad
Newcastle 1-Tottenham Hotspur 2
This could be a let down game for Spurs coming off a huge effort where they drew Manchester United but probably should have won. I will stick with Spurs in the north of England though because they won the last match playing with just 10 men for 30 minutes when Younes Kaboul decided he was an MMA fighter and not a centerback with questionable form.

Corey
Newcastle United 1-Tottenham Hotspur 1
I can’t find a reason to separate the two sides.  Pardew has done fairly well since taking over at Newcastle recently & Spurs need another consistent scoring threat to take the pressure off of Van Der Vaart.  While a move for Giuseppe Rossi may be on the cards, they won’t get him by Saturday, so, draw for me.

Wolves v Liverpool
Chad
Wolves 0-Liverpool 2
I keep picking Liverpool to win their first match under Dalglish and they keep playing inconsistent which is what got Hodgson sacked. I don’t know where they will find the goals with Babel on his way to the Bundesliga but mark down a victory for the Reds.

Corey
Wolves 1-Liverpool 1
Liverpool have too much talent for Wolves but talent alone doesn’t win games.  Fernando Torres looks interested only every other game these days & without another scoring threat, Liverpool are frankly awful by their standards these days.  Until they prove me wrong, I can’t pick them to win, especially as they are on the road to the Black Country.

Blackpool v Sunderland
Chad  Blackpool 1-Sunderland 1
Corey Blackpool 1-Sunderland 2

Everton v West Ham
Chad Everton 2-West Ham 1
Corey Everton 2-West Ham 0

Fulham v Stoke City
Chad Fulham 1-Stoke 1
Corey Fulham 1-Stoke 0

Sunday’s Matches
Blackburn Rovers v West Bromwich Albion
Chad Blackburn 2-West Brom 2
Corey Blackburn 2-West Brom 0

Monday’s Matches
Bolton Wanderers v Chelsea
Chad
Bolton 2-Chelsea 1
Chelsea has looked better their last two matches and have moved back into the top four but I smell an upset. Mark me down for a goal by Swede Johan Elmander to give the Wanderers a victory and three points at home. This is more than likely wishful thinking and Chelsea could very well dominate the match but I’m rolling the dice!

Corey
Chelsea 2-1 Bolton
I think Chelsea is righting the ship and if they are able to pry centerback David Luiz away from Benfica they may be back in the title race for sure after their recent shocking form.  Bolton have played well & impressed under Owen Coyle but I think Chelsea can exploit Bolton’s open, passing game on the counter.
