Everton finally wins, Liverpool still struggles, Chelsea gets back on track, and more. Get a recap of all the action after the jump.

Saturday, October 2 – Wigan Athletic 2, Wolverhampton Wanderers 0

It was an absolutely dominating performance for the Latics at DW Stadium over an undermanned Wolves side. Karl Henry drew a straight red 11 minutes in, and it was mostly one way traffic from there on out. Wigan outshot Wolverhampton 26-3 in the match, taking the lead with a 65th minute Jordi Gomez free kick. Hugo Rodallega put a result out of reach for Wolves in the 85th.

Saturday, October 2 – Birmingham City 0, Everton 2

Birmingham City never seriously challenged Tim Howard in net as the Toffees finally notched their first win of the season. The Merseyside Blues were gifted the lead in the 54th minute when Roger Johnson inadvertently deflected a Leon Osman cross into his own net. Tim Cahill put the nail in the coffin in added time with a one of his trademark headers. The match marked the first time that Birmingham had lost in their last 19 home fixtures.

Saturday, October 2 – Stoke City 1, Blackburn Rovers 0

Jon Walters netted the match’s deciding goal to hand the Potter their second straight victory. It was a deserved result as Blackburn didn’t appear in sync offensively for much of the game. Walters, who spent his youth with Rovers, was on the receiving end of a nice through ball in the 48th minute, and drilled home the eventual game-winner.

Saturday, October 2 – Sunderland 0, Manchester United 0

Edwin van der Sar was the lone bright spot for Sir Alex Ferguson as the Red Devils put up a wholly forgettable match on the heels of their dramatic Champions League defeat of Valencia. Provided with a golden opportunity for victory, Sunderland couldn’t find the back of the net, ultimately settling for a draw.

Saturday, October 2 – Tottenham Hotspur 2, Aston Villa 1

Rafael Van der Vaart played the role of savior for the Spurs, netting an equalizer just before the break, and giving Tottenham the win with a 75th minute strike. Marc Albrighton was on the receiving end of a nice Emile Heskey cross in the 16th minute to give visiting Villa a lead before Van der Vaart brought a harsh end to early success of the Gerard Houllier era for Aston Villa.

Saturday, October 2 – West Bromwich Albion 1, Bolton Wanderers 1

A pair of second half goals provided for drama, but ultimately it was moot as West Brom and Bolton drew at The Hawthorns. Johan Elmander gave the Wanderers the lead, but the Baggies would equalize 12 minutes before the whistle when James Morrison headed home a Peter Odemwingie cross.

Saturday, October 2 – West Ham United 1, Fulham 1

Once again Clint Dempsey got the better of Robert Green, but the Cottagers couldn’t hold on to the slim lead as they drew with the Hammers. Dempsey’s 33rd minute strike was equalized just after break by Frederic Piquionne in the 51st. Seven matches in, Fulham has yet to drop a Premiership fixture.

Sunday, October 3 – Manchester City 2, Newcastle United 1

The injury of Hatem Ben Arfa overshadowed Sunday’s result as it appeared that Nigel De Jong was once again responsible for breaking the leg of an opposing player. Tevez gave MCFC the lead with an 18th minute penalty kick, and Jonas Gutierrez would equalize six minutes later. Adam Johnson gave Man City the lead in the 75th, just moments after he entered the match for Gareth Barry.

Sunday, October 3 – Liverpool 1, Blackpool 2

In what may be one of the more awesome results of the weekend, Blackpool led throughout as the Reds continued the dreadful start to their season. A Charlie Adam penalty kick in the 29th minute gave the Tangerines the lead, and Luke Varney would double it just before the break. Sotirios Kyrgiakos cut the deficit to one in the 53rd, but Liverpool could not find the equalizer as Matt Gilks tallied seven saves for Blackpool.

Sunday, October 3 – Chelsea 2, Arsenal 0

Playing perhaps with something to prove after last week’s loss, Chelsea were clearly the better side against a Cesc Fabregas-less Arsenal. Didier Drogba took the lead in the 39th with a spectacular spinning back heel, his 13th score in 13 matches vs. the Gunners. Alex put it out of reach in the 85th with a stellar free kick, undoubtedly aided by suspicious set piece defense from Arsenal.
