We all know that the focus for Liverpool was to strengthen their midfielder. This is evident in their spending receipt from the summer transfer window, which consisted solely of midfielders. In fairness, Jurgen Klopp did well with his budget to sign as many excellent midfielders as he did.

Liverpool bid £100m for Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes on deadline day

However, it is now revealed that Klopp wasn’t satisfied with his options on deadline day. This is according to AS, who claim that Liverpool submitted a late bid on the English deadline day to sign Newcastle United and Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The bid, if accepted, would’ve set the Reds back a whopping £100m. However, as we know with hindsight, it wasn’t successful.

Understandably, Klopp was willing to spend big on the last day of the transfer window to bring in a proven midfielder. Bruno was by far and away Newcastle United’s best player in their astonishing campaign last season. Further, I would argue he would become Liverpool’s best midfielder if he signed for them, despite how Szoboszlai has hit the ground running.

Imagine if Liverpool had completed the signing of Bruno on transfer deadline day. It would have certainly made them title contenders, if they aren’t already perceived as that.

When you factor in that Liverpool managed to keep their best player Mohamed Salah, with the Saudi transfer window closing yesterday, it has been an almost perfect transfer window for Jurgen Klopp. The only thing which would’ve made it better, is if the Bruno bid was successful. Although, fans can have no complaints.

Having started the season well, fans will be excited to see their team get back to action after the current international break.  Next week, they will play Wolves away from home, in what should be a routine win for the Reds.

What would you rate Jurgen Klopp’s transfer window out of 10?
