Even without Antonio Conte, Spurs outplayed Manchester City and got themselves a 1-0 win at home.

Spurs hosted champions Manchester City at home in the Premier League this afternoon. It was a terrific game, which ended in a 1-0 win for the home side. The highlight of the match was Harry Kane becoming the club’s record goal scorer but let’s see how his teammates fared alongside him in these Spurs player ratings…

Spurs player ratings – Hugo Lloris 8/10

His distribution was better than it usually is. Towards the end of the match, Lloris played a killer ball which saw Son through on goal. The defence did their job well which meant Lloris wasn’t tested as much as he could’ve been, but stood firm against any test he was faced with.

Spurs player ratings – Cristian Romero 5/10

Lost his head in the first half and put himself on thin ice by picking up a yellow card following a reckless and unnecessary tackle on Haaland. This tackle looked even more silly in the last five minutes as a late challenge on Grealish means Spurs ended the match with 10 ten men.

But other than that – Wow. Romero plays with so much passion and this didn’t change today. There was a moment I liked at the 66th minute, where Romero won the ball with a commanding tackle, then ran the length of the pitch to assist the attacks with a counter attack. Lovely stuff from the World Cup winner.

The red card does hinder his rating massively, though. He needs to improve on his discipline.

Spurs player ratings – Eric Dier 8/10

Did well to isolate Erling Haaland, not giving the prolific leading talisman a sniff at goal. He was great at defending set pieces too, making sure his teammates kept their shape.

Spurs player ratings – Ben Davies 8/10

Confident, positive display from the Welsh international. Ben Davies played with a level head and didn’t look too fazed by the usual rampant City attack.

Spurs player ratings – Emerson Royal 7.5/10

Played well, and definitely proved me wrong. Heading into the match, I predicted Emerson to be benched following inconsistent form, but he seems to have picked it up. Some fine defensive work from the wing-back.

Spurs player ratings – Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 8/10

Lovely piece of midfield work to pounce on a weak City pass. He got the assist for for Kane’s opener and went to ground shortly after, but it was nothing to worry about in the end. An overall great midfield display from Hojbjerg, not just for his assist contribution.

Spurs player ratings – Rodrigo Bentancur 8/10

Played excellently as a box-to-box midfielder. In my opinion, he was the unsung hero in the middle of the park for Spurs. Consistently you would find him dribbling with intent into City’s half, which got the crowd going and inspired his team.

Spurs player ratings – Ivan Perisic 7/10

Some great defensive play, some great attacking play. That’s what you get from Perisic at wing-back, which is certainly his strongest position.

Picked up a yellow card towards the last 15 minutes of the match for bringing down Bernardo Silva. Eventually, he was the first to be subbed off in the 79th minute.

Spurs player ratings – Dejan Kulusevski 8/10

What a great player to watch. He has great technique and energy to support both the attacking play and help out defensively for Spurs too. He had to be subbed off for the last few minutes to help out defensively.

Spurs player ratings – Heung-Min Son 8/10

Played out of position a lot, which prevented Spurs from any attacking threat on the left-hand side. Still, Son played well in this position nevertheless as he was key to many counter attacks, particularly in the second half where Spurs dominated, before being subbed off in the 14th minute.

Son’s energy in this match was a sign of better things to come from the South Korean international.

Spurs player ratings – Harry Kane 9/10

He finally got the goal to make him Spurs’ record goalscorer, but he has long held the recognition from the Spurs fan. When the opening goal went in, it was the loudest they had ever chanted “he’s one of our own” and an excellent piece of commentary from Peter Drury to say he has “dared and he has done”. He’ll be a very, very happy man. Great performance!

Spurs sub ratings – Ryan Sessegnon 6/10

He was the first sub for Spurs, but that didn’t come until the 79th minute. He won a foul in Spurs’ half in the last minute of action so in my opinion, that’s a good cameo from the Englishman.

Spurs sub ratings – Yves Bissouma N/A

Came on in the last 5 minutes in place of Heung-Min Son to balance the play. He didn’t play enough minutes to warrant a rating.

Spurs sub ratings – Davinson Sanchez N/A

Came on in the last few minutes to tighten things up defensively following Romero’s red card. Did well at that, but ultimately had no not enough time to warrant a rating.
