Time flies when we all are having fun, with us already concluding Matchday 3 of the Premier League for the 2022/23 season. Fair to say… there have been many results going against the grain with some of the top teams struggling to make an impact on the league.

Last week’s nine teams without a win has been narrowed down to five teams, with four clubs finally getting off the mark after three games played.

Some Premier League Matchday 2 Stats:

  • Winners and Losers: 8 Winners and Losers
  • Points Shared: 2 Games, 4 Teams
  • Biggest Win(s): Bournemouth 0-3 Arsenal; Leeds United 3-0 Chelsea
  • Highest Scoring Game: Newcastle 3-3 Manchester City
  • Lowest Scoring Game: Tottenham 1-0 Wolves
  • Goals scored: 32 Goals (Most goals scored over a matchday weekend so far this season)
  • Clean Sheets: 4
  • Opening Goal of Matchday 3: Early kickoff between Spurs and Wolves: Harry Kane
  • Premier League Teams Without a Win After Matchday 3: Everton, Leicester City, Liverpool, West Ham, and Wolves. The Hammers are now the only team without a point and without a goal scored after three games played, is it time to stress for Moyes and the Irons?

Let’s get into The Top Flight’s Premier League Power Ranking for Matchday 3!

Leeds United 3-0 Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel’s men were one of four teams to concede three goals on Matchday 3 but only one of two to score zero goals themselves, and collect no points. Added to the misery, they were the only side to pick up a red card over the weekend.

Due to them spending £93m on their defence and conceding the most goals and having spent £117m on their attack (that’s just adding Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling’s transfer fees together) and being unable to score, they drop down from seventh place to this week’s worst-performing outfit.

Bournemouth 0-3 Arsenal

Despite their opening day promise shown at the Vitaliy Stadium, which saw them rank in the top six, the Cherries have struggled to make an impact since. Another club to concede three, making it back-to-back games where they have let in three or more goals.

Added to the poor showing in defence, they have also lacked quality in front of goal, having one shot on target against the Gunners and two shots on target in their last 180 minutes of football. So that means no movement for Scott Parker and his Bournemouth side. They stay 19th.

Crystal Palace 3-1 Aston Villa

The pains of losing Diego Carlos on Matchday 2 appear to be haunting Villa, with them being the third side this weekend to concede three goals. The only difference in this fixture is that they had the lead initially and threw it away two minutes after just going ahead.

Last weekend’s fifth-placed club moves all the way down to this weekend’s 18th-placed team. They take the title as the most inconsistent Premier League clubs after three played.

West Ham United 0-2 Brighton

Lucky for the Hammers there were teams who were worse than them this weekend past. They have, however, been the worst EPL side over three games, conceding five goals, scoring nothing, and collecting no points as well.

West Ham struggled in every department and was second best in ball possession, completed passes, and pass accuracy against Brighton. They are also only one of two sides to lose at home this weekend and for that, they move nowhere and stay in 17th, in the Power Ranking.

Leicester City 1-2 Southampton

It has gone from decent to bad to extremely bad for Brendan Rodgers and those at the King Power. A poor transfer market has been as evident as daylight on the pitch. On the first day, the Foxes threw a two-goal lead away to share the points.

This time around, same venue, and a similar outcome by throwing a one-goal lead away in the second half of the game with only 22 minutes left to spare. This time they lost all the points to the visitors. For this, they placed outside the top 10 for the third week running.

Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool

Another side unable to break into the top 10 is Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. To put it mildly: it’s just been dismal performance after dismal performance for the Reds. They have already suffered their first defeat of the season and it doesn’t seem to be getting better for them.

Outmuscled, outsmarted and outplayed, Manchester United came to play football while Liverpool were still stuck on the team coach. They have gone from 11th place on Matchday 2 and dropped down the order to this weekend’s 15th place.

Fulham 3-2 Brentford

The Bees couldn’t build on a marvellous Matchday 2 showing where they hammered Man United 4-0. However, it was a tough-contested first-ever, Premier League West London derby between Brentford and Fulham.

A five-goal thriller with end-to-end action, which was anybody’s game to win, ended in heartbreak for Thomas Frank as they lost the game in added time of the second half. Sadly, last week’s top performers drop down to 14th after conceding three goals and not securing a point at Craven Cottage.

Everton 1-1 Nottingham Forest

Not looking good for Frank Lampard at all. One point from their opening three fixtures, despite two home games, says it all. They were not second best when they went up against Nottingham Forest, but they did go down first in the draw.

Having no striker has come back to haunt them once again. They place 13th after another forgettable day. They should be winning their home fixtures, especially against a team that hasn’t played EPL football for 23 years.

Tottenham 1-0 Wolves

It could have been worse and it could have been a lot better, but Wolves found it hard to find the target and lost by a single goal. They took 20 shots at goal with only three hitting the target. Spurs, meanwhile, took nine fewer shots, hitting the target more and scoring their goal when it mattered.

But the home side was second best for most of the match and for that, the Wanderers come in at 12th ahead of Everton, who drew.

Everton 1-1 Nottingham Forest

A point stolen, making it four points in two games for the newly-promoted Nottingham Forest. If it was not for a lapse in concentration that saw one final pass take the entire backline out of the game, it could have been a lot better for the visitors on the day.

Thanks to another outstanding display by Dean Henderson, Forest earned themselves a draw and get a spot just outside of the top 10, dropping down six places from last weekend’s fourth-best team.

Newcastle United 3-3 Manchester City

Dropped points for Man City means a drop down the pecking order for the champions of England. The first three goals conceded this season sees them share the points for the first time.

Despite going down first and then by three goals, they somehow still managed to turn the game in their favour, almost coming away with a late win. Sadly, Newcastle stood firm and survived the customary onslaught.

What a win. What a game. What a five-goal thriller at Craven Cottage. Aleksander Mitrovic has put his critics to bed in these early days of the campaign, scoring the winner for his side to take all the points and win their first game of the term.

Thanks to their first three points, they’ve found their way back into the top 10 with a 9th-place ranking after dropping out last weekend.

A result is a result and Spurs are taking the three points anywhere they can. It was a tough day at the office chasing the ball around for most of the day, however, even though they allowed their opponents most of the ball possession, they still maintained their clean sheet and were the side to score and collect another three points.

A combative eighth-place finish for Antonio Conte on his run to upset the league leaders.

Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool

Is it the spawn of the Red Devils? It really could be after such an outstanding performance against their old foes who were also the favourites heading into their clash.

Led by the brilliance of Rashford and Sancho, Manchester United put in a great display in front of goal while a change at the back in the selection, calling for Harry Maguire to be dropped, saw them hold onto all the points at Old Trafford. Because of this, the Red Devils take a massive jump up the ladder from 20th place to seventh place and enter the top 10 for the first time.

Leicester City 2-1 Southampton

The only reason they rank above the previous two clubs is that they staged a comeback win away from home against the so-called “stronger” opponents.

The Saints pick up their first win of the season after their second comeback in as many weeks. Last weekend’s ninth-best club is this week’s sixth-best performers.

Crystal Palace 3-1 Aston Villa

Palaced kicked a dog while he was down when they beat Aston Villa 3-1 at Selhurst Park. Going down 1-0 was the motivation required for the Eagles to come back from behind and win the game.

Patrick Vieira’s men have gone from strength to strength, moving up the EPL rankings with each passing matchday. They started off with a defeat to Arsenal, a well-organized draw against Liverpool, and now a comeback victory against the Villians, placing them in 14th, then sixth, and now fifth, one spot higher.

West Ham 0-2 Brighton

The Seagulls picked up their second victory on the road and become the best defensive team after three played, having conceded only one goal, which was an own goal in the opening game against Manchester United. They’ve so far allowed nobody to score against them, which is just amazing!

Last week’s 13th-placed team is back in the top five for the second time this term. They scored two on the day and kept a clean sheet, one of four clubs to do so over the weekend. They also dominated the Hammers on home soil, giving them the edge over Fulham, United, and others in the Power Ranking.

Bournemouth 0-3 Arsenal

Can you believe the words being written here: Arsenal remains the only club with a 100% record in the EPL after three games played? Yes, they deserve a first-place or second-place ranking but the other teams ahead of them overproduced in their respective fixtures while the Gunners’ opponents are set up to be this season’s whipping boys. So for these nitpick reasons, they rank third this week.

They scored three goals and allowed the Cherries a few chances on goal on the other side of the pitch. Ramsdale only had six shots taken against him with only one on target.

Newcastle United 3-3 Manchester City

The Magpies were so close to taking all the points but the strength of City always prevails, saving themselves a point from the match. Newcastle went toe-to-toe with a ruthless City side and was rewarded for their efforts.

Normally a draw wouldn’t get a club into the top five of the Premier League Power Rankings, but because Howe’s men took the game to the champions, they get back into the top three, bettering their best of Matchday 1 with a second-place rank.

Leeds United 3-0 Chelsea

Jesse Marsch surely put stories of his early success being a fluke to bed with a flawless display against one of the Premier League giants, Chelsea.

Leeds United get a deserved move up TTF’s Premier League Power Rankings from 10th to first place after putting three goals past Thomas Tuchel’s £93m backline while standing firm in their attempt to keep a clean sheet. A valiant exhibition by the new-look Leeds who are this week’s best performing Premier League club.
