The Premier League returned this weekend with plenty of drama and plenty of goals. The return of the Premier League means one more thing – the return of FPL football!
Eight point five million managers worldwide set up their teams for Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 1 and this time, with full pre-seasons and plenty of interesting pricing and transfers leading to lots of decisions to be made.
Whether you’re a seasoned campaigner or new to Fantasy Premier League and looking to make an impact in your work league, we’ve got you covered!
We’ll be writing a Team of the Week post before every single Gameweek to aid you in your decisions and transfers, as well as taking a look at which players earned a spot on our FPL Power Rankings after every Gameweek!
Here are our FPL Power Rank picks after Gameweek 1!

- Team: Arsenal
- Position: Defender
- Price: 5.1m
Oleksandr Zinchenko had an impressive debut for Arsenal, starting at left-back in place of Kieran Tierney who’s still working his way back to full fitness.
Ahead of an excellent run of fixtures, there was plenty of interest in Arsenal’s defense and while picks were split between Ramsdale, Gabriel, and Zinchenko, Oleks produced a strong showing to pull ahead of the pack while emerging as the Arsenal defender of choice.
No player had more touches (55) or created more chances (2) than Oleksandr Zinchenko in the first half of Crystal Palace vs. Arsenal.

An assist on his debut. 🎯 pic.twitter.com/Nkp40C0J1O
He had 1 shot on target and created 2 chances, including 1 big chance for an xG of 0.04, but nearly a gameweek-leading xA of 0.59. He got 12 points including maximum bonus points this week.
Besides his assist, he also did admirably well on baseline bonus compared to the rest of the defense, suggesting bonus points could be on the cards for him when Arsenal keeps a clean sheet.

- Team: Arsenal
- Position: Midfielder
- Price: 6.0m
Another pick, another Arsenal player. They’ve looked sharp all pre-season, have a good run of fixtures, and are priced well, making them strong choices heading into the league season.
Martinelli played left wing but took up advanced positions centrally with regularity. He missed an easy chance to open the scoring before getting another great-headed chance, which he duly took to grab himself a goal. Two “big” chances and an open play expected goals (xG) of 0.88 for a 6m-priced midfielder is too good to pass up.

- Team: Liverpool
- Position: Forward
- Price: 9.0m
I did not expect that a player that didn’t even start for his team would make the top 5 of Fantasy Premier League Power Rankings after GW1 but here we are.
After a stellar display off the bench in the Community Shield against Manchester City, Nunez repeated the act by coming off the bench in the second half against Fulham this week.
He just seems elite at getting himself into positions for “big chances” and he showed that again with an absolutely mammoth xG of 1.67 and xA of 0.49, all from open play as a substitute. He scored a goal, and grabbed an assist while still missing 2 “big chances”.
If Nunez can replicate this sort of impact from the start of games, he’d become borderline essential in FPL from this Liverpool team. Watch this space.

- Team: Manchester City
- Position: Forward
- Price: 11.6m
It should come as no surprise that a Viking goal machine joining one of the most prolific creative sides in the league should equal goals but even so, the sheer speed and composure Haaland showed away at West Ham was frightening if you’re a fan of any other club league-wide.
Haaland had 5 shots, 2 on target, 2 big chances missed, 2 goals scored including a penalty, which he earned with his deceptively rapid pace on his way to a monstrous xG of 2.17 this weekend – a figure higher than over 50% of other Premier League clubs managed to produce in their opening games.
He scored 2 goals en route to a 13-point debut in Fantasy Premier League. We get the feeling that we’re going to be talking about Haaland a whole lot here in this section.

- Team: Fulham
- Position: Forward
- Price: 6.6m
Aleksandar Mitrovic announced his return to the Premier League in style, tormenting Liverpool’s backline all game.
Last season’s record-breaking goalscorer from the Championship gave an instant reply to all those critics who questioned whether he’d be able to make the step up to the top tier of English Football.
Aleksandar Mitrovic has now scored six Premier League goals against the 'Big Six'.

Four of them have been headers. 😀 pic.twitter.com/VNlAvejYar
He towered above Trent Alexander-Arnold to score an incredible header and then earned and scored a penalty confidently to bag his second goal of the game. He had 3 shots, 2 on target, and 1 chance created for an xG of 0.91 and xA 0.05.
For his price and impact, Aleksandar Mitrovic tops our Power Rankings after the first week of Premier League football!
