Salah’s missed penalty almost costly for the Reds

Liverpool should have had two goals as early as the 14th minute of the game and should have doubled their lead when they were awarded a penalty but Salah uncharacteristically missed.

It was Salah’s 18th penalty in red and only the second one he missed in his Liverpool career in the space of four years. A penalty missed by Mo Salah could have been the difference between a point shared and an easy route to three points on the opening night.

As the Egyptian King always does though, he made up for his miss when he levelled the playing field again for the game to go 2-2 soon after the second-half kick-off, 48 minutes into the game.

The captain saved all the points and handed the Reds their Champions League Matchday 1 day victory; the strike was also worth three points.
