Jack Grealish – Aston Villa

Aston Villa had some glimpses of good football during the season, mostly because of Jack Grealish. The attacking midfielder had an amazing start to the season, where he managed to score 3 goals and delivered 3 assists in his first four games.

For Aston Villa, there were some players with excellent showings during the season but we decided to go with Grealish since, during his absence, the Lions only won 2 games out of 10, which saw their chances of European competitions fade away.

With Grealish starting, Aston Villa won 13 games, tied 3, and lost 8, far better efficiency than the one without him where the Lions won 3 games, tied 4, and lost 7.

Grealish’s injury was one of the main factors why Aston Villa couldn’t make the Top 10. The Englishman scored 6 goals and delivered 10 assists this season, created 150 opportunities of goal, and was the player who drew the most fouls this season with 109.

Clearly a brilliant season from Grealish that earned him a spot in Southgate’s provisional squad for the Euro even though he’s getting back in shape from his shin injury back in February.

Honorable Mentions – Ollie Watkins and Emi Martinez

Watkins and Martinez had phenomenal seasons which shocked many fans. Martinez has been Arsenal’s property since 2011 but never had an opportunity to be their first-choice goalkeeper since he was on loans every season.

This season, Martinez showed his Premier League caliber as he placed 3rd in Premier League for most clean sheets with 15. He was also placed 3rd for the most saves with 142.

Watkins, in just his first Premier League season, scored 14 goals and assisted 5 in 37 games played. He was a big help when Grealish wasn’t able to play and delivered for Aston Villa.

Also, his good performance earned him a spot in Southgate’s provisional squad for the Euro where he will be alongside his Villa teammates Jack Grealish and Tyrone Mings.
