Arsenal: Goodbye Lucas Torreira – It just didn’t work out for him at the Emirates
It just hasn’t worked out for Lucas Torreria at Arsenal
I for one was all aboard the Lucas Torreria train. After his stellar performances for his national side, I was fooled into thinking he could be as ruthless as Gennaro Gattuso or Javier Mascherano.
A short central figure that would marshal the middle of the park. At 25, he still could reach those standards, but it’s just not going to happen at the Emirates. What didn’t aid him was how inconsistently well he did for Unai Emery.

He was always hot and cold but gave you the feeling, he just needed that one run of games to find his rhythm and once he does, he would be one of the best foreign midfielders in the EPL over the past three years.
Injuries, a managerial change plus a global pandemic, it’s fair to say that many things were really working against a Torreria-Arsenal stay.
His time in North London saw him make 89 appearances, starting 55 of them, and having a goal contribution of eight.
He enjoyed two full seasons as a Gunner but failed to impress and win some of the fans over. Despite the club having minimal funds to make any significant transfers they still felt it feasible to send him out on loan.
Clear Arteta had other plans that did not involve Torreira
When Mikel Arteta was appointed as the manager of Arsenal back in December he was in charge of 26 games before the season concluded.
Torreria only featured in 15 games, starting seven and coming off the bench in the other eight. He wasn’t even involved in their FA Cup win over Chelsea.
This gives us enough evidence that as soon as the right deal surfaces, the club and the player will agree it’s time to move on and will put pen to paper.
It would be ultimately shocking to see him stay beyond the summer transfer window and forcing his way into Mikel Arteta’s plans.
