In a bit of Scottish Premiership news, Rangers talisman and star forward Alfredo Morelos has admitted that a transfer in the summer is ‘likely’.
It’s been a prolific season for Alfredo Morelos in the Scottish Premiership, no doubt about that. The young Colombian has been a revelation for Steven Gerrard’s side, scoring a whopping 15 league goals and adding 7 assists in 23 league matches. Those numbers go up to 27 goals and 10 assists in 39 matches if you prefer all competitions. Yet, Morelos mentioned on Colombian radio this week that a transfer away from Scotland in the summer is ‘most likely’, with the Premier League being the most likely destination.
Steven Gerrard has denied these claims, stating that Rangers have no interest in selling Morelos, and simply want to focus on the upcoming fixtures:
“I’ve been clear on my thoughts about Alfredo. We want him to stay here for as long as possible.
“But I understand how people work and the reality is we haven’t had any offers at the moment. He’s a Rangers player and we look forward to Aberdeen.”
It would be tough for Gerrard to lose such a coveted player, but there’s no denying that Morelos’ potential lies far beyond Rangers’ reach. This is a player who will continue to grow, and could eventually become a superb striker. He has shown this season how clinical he can be, but he’s also pitching in in other areas of the pitch.
Morelos said this over the radio regarding a potential transfer:
“There are many teams interested in me and a lot of them have watched me play. Most likely my transfer will be this summer. With the amount of goals I have scored, I know it has been noticed by European clubs. I have always said I would like to play in the English Premier League, but my initial aim is to play in the Copa America this summer, which has always been a dream of mine. My mentality is that I have to keep working hard to get a place in the squad.”
