Anthony Martial could be done with Manchester United

According to RMC sport who report that Frenchman Anthony Martial “has rejected several contract offers from United”

22 year-old forward Anthony Martial, joined Manchester United from Monaco on September 1st, 2015, in a 36.3m euro deal. In his first season with the Red Devils, Martial impressively scored 17 goals in all competitions.

Though, as Mourinho signed more and more attackers, questions were being asked about Martial’s playing time. It wasn’t until the signing of Alexis Sanchez, which was followed by a saga of transfer rumors that Martial’s feature became more clear.

With Martial’s contract about to expire at the end of the season, it seems that the exit is closer than ever. United do have the option to trigger a 12-month option, but that is only if he receives a fee for his services.

With the contract extension of Luke Shaw, United hope to lure in David De Gea and Anthony Martial into extensions as well. Since United are currently undergoing one of their worst starts to the English Premier League in some time, a loss of quality like Martial could be permanently damaging.

Why Martial is so important to United

Because Martial is such a spark in attack, United would struggle trying to reignite what they lost. Also, with the midfield struggling with stability and depth, a versatile player like Martial can really move the ball into the final third.

Working around a player like Martial is easy as well, he links well with Lingard and Pogba, and provides width and options for Lukaku.

I do believe the arrival of Alexis Sanchez has caused more harm than good to the squad and judging by the current relationships in the team as a whole, there needs to be some changes.

Martial wants to be a starter, and currently, I would choose to start him over Sanchez. He is more of a long-term player, compared to Sanchez who is 29.
