From the list of elite players, who are the chosen ones for Russia 2018? These are my best pick.

These players for me will be the standout players in Russia for the World Cup. Most of these players had outstanding seasons, while others just have that something special when draped in their country’s colours.

The pick at the top of the totem pole

More from Premier League

To break it down even further – I have selected my top three players for this one. They will be my fielders who will be the best in their respective countries.

David de Gea – Spain will need him now more than ever, after their sacking of their manager. Spain’s stopper will be called into action but will be excellent to the asking.

Kevin de Bruyne – Most believe the fate of Belgium depends on Eden Hazard. However, I feel the winger is not the key to success, and is far from the most important piece to the puzzle. The man pulling the strings, playing the songs the team all bumps to is Kevin de Bruyne. In fact, the the centre most piece in the puzzle. After his campaign, together with him improving each season, he will be an outstanding player in Russia.

Mesut Ozil (unpopular opinion) – This will probably get the most stick. However, this guy in Germany colours has always and will always be a potent combination. Having a bad season, yes. Having a bad time at Arsenal, that’s debatable. One of Germany’s best midfielders ever to play in the colours? Yes! He will definitely strut his stuff and show that swagger we know him to have on the ball.

Honourable mentions – Nick Pope; Bernardo Silva

That’s my pick for the worst, not bad, better than most, the creme de la creme of Russia 2018 World Cup.
