Divided opinions and feelings towards the selected squad going to Russia in a month from now. The one thing that all is in favour of, is the Burnley names mentioned in the squad.

Nick Popeā€™s impressive season at Burnley earned him a spot on the plane, and rightly so. The young goalkeeper only established himself in the wake of Tom Heatonā€™s injury, but has gone from strength to strength over the course of the season.

Among the defenders, it is heartening to see Trent Alexander-Arnold get the call. The 19-year-old has been impressive over the last few months for Liverpool. He is likely to play backup to Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier, but his versatility means that he can provide cover in midfield when needed.

More from The Top Flight

Gary Cahill is another player that earned a recall. He was dropped for the friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy earlier this year. Despite his poor form for Chelsea, he has managed to win back Southgateā€™s trust. With 58 caps, he is Englandā€™s most experienced player at the tournament. However, in terms of performance, there were better options available.

Ashley Young and Fabian Delph have been beneficiaries of their versatility and club form. Both have worked their way back into the side over the course of the season, and can provide cover in midfield.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek ended the season in fine form for Crystal Palace. His role in Russia will be that of a backup option. His direct dribbling style will give tired defences something to think about, and he has well and truly earned his spot on the plane.
